And so it begins...

Mike and I are both retired now. The house is in escrow.

Most of our worldly belongings are tucked snugly into three U-boxes. The rest we gave away, threw away, sold, or are taking with us in our motorhome on our search for our new home.

It’s amazing how much stuff one can accumulate over the years. Our seemingly neat and organized office was anything but. We thought we had done a good job of getting rid of paperwork as it came in over the last 30 years, but it took us three days to sort through our files, determine what needed to be shredded and what we could safely discard. At the end, we had 200 pounds of paperwork that we shredded!

We are impatiently waiting for escrow to close. There have been several delays (our realtor assures us there are no problems, just a backup in internal paperwork on the lender’s side). We have no TV, no living room furniture, and just the kitchen essentials we will be using on the motorhome. However, the buyer bought our dining room furniture, our bedroom set, the washer and dryer, and the pool table, so we are still able to live comfortably.

We hope to start our trek across the United States by the end of the week. We will travel to Las Vegas first to visit family. Then, we’ll head up to St. George, Utah, and tour the national parks clustered there. After that, we plan to head towards the Boulder, Colorado, area to visit friends. The plan gets sketchier after Colorado. We’ll probably head down through New Mexico, Texas, and follow the gulf coast to Florida, but who knows where the wind will blow us.

We’ll post our progress on the trek, our adventures, and the many photos I hope to take along the way.
