Santa Fe – August 6 through 10

We stayed on just southwest of Santa Fe, NM, for five nights. Santa Fe is very different from most cities. In fact, it has the nickname of “The City Different”. In 1912, a code was passed requiring all new or remodeled buildings to use the style of Spanish Pueblo Revival. Since everything looks similar, it’s hard to find what you are looking for, especially since there are few large signs for the businesses.

We went to old historic downtown Santa Fe and walked through the many shops and art galleries. There was a Wind River Trading post there (guess I can’t get away from it). The Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi was beautiful on the outside. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to go inside, as a wedding was in progress the day we were there.
Santa Fe is definitely on our list of places to retire. We looked at several houses in the Eldorado area, near where we were staying. The weather was mild for the desert; it’s at 7,000 feet. However, it did rain quite a bit in the afternoons. There are three seasons in Santa Fe, and it’s cold in the winter.
